Just-A-Scrappin Design Team Challenges

Hi all!
I just wanted to make a quick note to the Just-A-Scrapin Design team gals. For the last two weeks, I have not been able to participate in the Challenges because first, my eldest son got pneumonia then this week my youngest. We've been in and out of the doctor's office going through treatment. My oldest is feeling better and youngest on his way to doing better.
All your creations are so wonderful and I hope to join you next week.
Hugs,
Kimberly

Thank You, Thinking of You and Note Card Sets

One of my BFFs asked if I had any thank you card sets. I used to sell my cards at a store but I don't anymore....long story. Anyway, as I was going through my inventory, I thought, "Gosh, I should post the Thank You and Note Card sets on my blog and hopefully I will inspire someone". If you have any questions just leave me a comment and I'll get back to you. So, here they are:

Cardz TV Color Challenge

I absolutely love (no pun intended) red, black and white on Valentine cards, layouts and other crafty projects. I made this card yesterday then was reading through my emails and found the color challenge from Mary at cardztv.blogspot.com. So, I thought I'd give it a go! I would really like it if I could win one of her stamp sets. I bought the BINGO set and have already worn it out...just kidding.

Here's how it's made (youtube.com/sunshinecreation):

Valentine's Day Card - All About Love

I made my best attempt on video taping this one. There was a slight interruption with my two miniature Schnauzers barking at the arrival of my husband and construction workers. Sorry about that.

I came up with this design by just pulling embellishments out of my Valentine's stash and flower supplies.  I had bought the embossing folder a few weeks ago and forgot I had it! Silly me. Hope you enjoy.

Card stock base: Recollections white pre-scored 5 1/2 x 4.
Layer one: pink from a paper stack I had in my supplies....DCWV?
Layer two: Coredinations pink on dark pink 5 1/4 x 3 3/4. I used my Cuttlebug Heart Embossing Folder and my Big Shot. Then sanded it with a Tim Holtz sander.
Embellishments:
Doiley~Walmart (in their cake decorating section)
   Crochet Flower~ Michaels - Recollections
Paper Flower Assortment ~ Michaels - Recollections
   Bling ~ Michaels ($ bin)

Valentine's Card - Heart and Scallop Banner

Let the Valentine's Card making begin!
About 4 years ago, I attended a card making class at my local scrapbooking store (Remember When Scrapbooking). The instructor, Lisa (I think it was Lisa. I'm having pre-senior moment cause I can't remember her name), had designed this card. I needed something to inspire me so I pulled the sketch out of my archives and went for it. It's a bit out of my comfort zone but I needed to do something really different.

Card Base:
 65 lb weight from Staples
Cut at 9 1/4 x 8 then folded in half.
Paper:
 Martha Stewart
Tools:
 2 inch Fiskars scallop punch
Martha Steward All Around Punch - Heart
Cricut Cartridge:
Don Juan - Heart is cut at 2 1/2 inches
Other:
 Recollections - Pearl Hearts
 White Gel Pen

Just A Scrappin Design Team Challenge - Snowflakes Are Falling

Here is another project for the Just-A-Scrappin Design team challenge. This week it's " Snowflakes are falling.   Make a card, LO or project with lots of snowflakes.  Use stickles, glitter or anything that shiny."

Before you see this layout, I have to share the story behind it....January 2, 2011 (my birthday) it was freezing cold and raining. Keep in mind I live in sunny Southern California where in the summer it can get up to 110 degrees. There were no weather predictions of snow at all. As we drove home from my birthday dinner, up the hill,  I said to my husband, "Gosh, that looks like it's snow on our windshield." And it was. It snowed and snowed and snowed for 2 days. Truly, the best birthday present EVER! All our neighbors joined us outside and we had a massive snowball fight, made snowmen and froze our butts off. We are skiers so we had the right clothing but most everyone else were wearing socks on their hands instead of mittens! It was a blast and so, so beautiful.

The base of the paper is from DCWV paper stack. The embellishments are from my local craft store (Remember When Scrapbooking). I placed a light blue ribbon 3/4 way down the page and layered it with a white ball ribbon. At the bottom is Bazzill card stock cut about 4 inches in height and stamped with white snowflakes using white Momento ink. I used an EK Success snowflake punch on white glitter paper. The font "snowball fight" is from Don Juan Cricut cartridge. I layered it with blue on the bottom and white on top.

Fantabulous Cricut Challenge - Masculine Card

This is my entry for the Fantabulous Cricut Challenge - Masculine Card. I call this one "My Hero".

The card base is Recollections craft card stock. I've layered it with a 3 3/4 x 5 1/4 inch camouflage paper I purchased at JoAnns. I used Stand and Salute Cricut cartridge for the dog tag, punched a hole at the top, and put a string of silver beads through it. The word "HERO" is from the Plantin Schoolbook Cricut cartridge (cut at 1 inch) using black Colorbok (Walmart) cardstock. I adhered the word on a craft card stock piece, cut at 1 1/4 inch high and 4 inches long, then used by scissors to cut the one sided banner.

Just A Scrappin Design Team Challenge - New Technique

Hello everyone!
I've been thinking about making (or trying to make) a pop up card then I got the email from Patti (just-a-scrappin.blogspot.com) for this week's design team challenge and thought what a perfect opportunity.

This week's challenge is: to "try a new technique" - make a card, LO or project using a new technique or style of card that you have not done before.
Example: Sewing, stamping, quilling, paper folding, etc.

I started with a pre-scored white Recollections card base. After folding it over I marked 2 1/8 inch from the left then right side of the card. From there I cut a 1 inch slit then inside popped it up.
The top layer (k&i Company bought at JoAnns last year) was cut the exact size of the card (5 1/2 x 4). Then I cut a 5 1/2 x 1 1/2 inch strip of the red heart embossed (Elsie) paper and wrapped a piece of black "net"...can't think of the name of the darn thing...tied a knot and placed a K&Co. chipboard heart on it.
Inside I put another K&Co chipboard heart on the pop up part. I used a rub on "Happy Valentines Day" that I had in my Valentine's stash. I'm not sure what the name brand is.
Thanks so much for stopping by!
Kimberly

Hello all my fellow bloggers.
I've hit a milestone today....it's my 50th birthday today. Funny, 20 or less years ago when I heard "she/he is 50". I thought that was old but now that I'm here, I don't feel old at all. As my sweet older sister says, "50 if Fabulous!"
A lot is going on with me and my family this year...my nephew will turn 30, my youngest will turn 15 then in October get his driver's permit, my oldest will turn 18 and graduate high school, my husband and I will be celebrating our 20th wedding anniversary, my grandmother will be 97...and the fun goes on and on.
I am so blessed and everyday I am humble of all that I have.
Next blog....Just A Scrappin Design Team Challenge. See you then!
My best,

Kimberly
